COMMITTEE
The focus of Legacy’s Education Committee is to
involve young professionals in educational issues and services in the
Greater Cincinnati region. The committee provides access for young professionals
to contribute to the community though educational outreach programs, events,
and services. In 2003, the Education Committee organized a panel discussion
with superintendents from a diverse group of Northern Kentucky school
systems. The educators discussed topics such as KERA, school funding,
achievement testing, and business partnerships.
In January the Legacy Education Committee again hosted a general membership
meeting, this time focusing on business and education partnerships. The
program featured Citi LINC and The Gateway Center, which showcased the
newly created partnership between Gateway Community College and Citigroup's
Florence location. The partnership offers college courses on the Citigroup
site, career exploration for Citigroup employees, and pre-hire training
for any tristate residents looking for a way to improve employability
skills. Citigroup views education as a business strategy that affects
the Florence site and regional development. The Education Committee believes
this strategic commitment and partnership to education is one from which
all business professionals can learn.
In February and March of 2004, the committee is also planning a Political
Candidates Clinic with the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
The clinic is for individuals interested in serving their community, with
a focus on local city councils or local boards of education.
